Father Mike St. Marie, son of Duane and Sharrol St. Marie, was born in Lewiston, Idaho on September 12, 1958. He is the eldest of three children (Ann & Jim). He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1976 and in December of 1979 received his bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho.
Following college, Mike worked as a Chapter Consultant for Phi Delta Theta Fraternity for 2 ½ years, traveling to college campuses throughout the U.S. and Canada. In 1982, Mike returned to Lewiston to work in the construction business with his father. From 1983 – 1985, Mike worked as the Assistant Alumni Director at the University of Idaho and in 1985 was hired as the Alumni Director at Southern Oregon College in Ashland.
Mike entered Mount Angel Seminary in the fall of 1986 and graduated in 1991. From 1991 – 1993, he served as a deacon at St. Jerome’s Parish in Jerome. He was ordained a priest on June 9, 1993, at St. John’s Cathedral by Bishop Tod Brown. From 1993 – 1994, he served at St. Mark’s Parish in Boise. Fr. Mike spent from 1994 – 1996 at La Parroquia San Marcos in Cali, Colombia. In 1996, Fr. Mike was named pastor for Gooding, Wendell and Shoshone. Another transfer in 1999 placed him as pastor of Holy Rosary in Idaho Falls with the missions of Mud Lake and Roberts.
In 2002, Fr. Mike was granted a leave of absence and worked for the Washoe County Public Guardian’s office in Reno, Nevada. In January 2006, he returned to active ministry as pastor of St. Nicholas’ in Rupert and Little Flower in Burley. He served there until July 1, 2009, when he became pastor of St. Edward’s in Twin Falls and administrator of Immaculate Conception in Buhl and St. Catherine’s in Hagerman. Fr. Mike was also priest moderator for St. Elizabeth’s – Gooding, St. Anthony’s- Wendell and St. Peter’s – Shoshone and the Dean of the Southern Deanery.
In July 2012, he was transferred to north Idaho to be the pastor of St. Mary’s in Moscow and St. Mary’s in Genesee. After a short-lived stint in his native land, Fr. Mike returned to St. Edward’s in July 2013. Once again, he was Dean of the Southern Deanery, and a member of both the Presbyteral Council and the Priests’ Personnel Commission.
July 2, 2018, Fr. Mike begins his assignment as Pastor of Our Lady of the Valley in Caldwell…with no missions or other duties attached…yet.
